BEHIND THE GRID
From your list to the page
The answer key uses the paths saved while the puzzle was built. It does not scan the filled grid and guess which occurrence was intended. Each unique word has a start cell, an end cell, and a direction. The visible coordinates begin at row 1, column 1 in the upper-left corner. Reading along the recorded path must recover the complete word in the selected letter case and accent mode.
The student sheet has no solution marks. The answer key outlines the recorded paths and lists their coordinates. Download the solution separately when you want to keep it apart from the activity, or include it after the student sheet in a combined PDF. Use the same paper size for both. When preparing several versions, match each activity to its version and seed before printing.
Filler letters can create an extra occurrence of a listed word. That does not change the path chosen for the answer key. WordGrid checks its recorded placements, but a local filler check cannot guarantee the absence of every unwanted sequence. Review the full grid before sharing it with a class. Keep the settings and algorithm version with the seed if you need to regenerate the same puzzle later.
Limits: downloads require every word to be placed. Export checks 12 mm margins and the minimum font size. Lists are stored only when you choose Save.

Coordinate example: SOL starting at row 1, column 1 and moving right ends at row 1, column 3. Its cells are (1,1), (1,2), and (1,3). This explains coordinate notation; the generated puzzle's actual positions depend on its settings and seed.
Questions about the tool
Why does the key mark only one occurrence?
The key shows the saved placement for each unique word. A second occurrence formed by filler letters is incidental and does not replace the recorded answer.
Do the coordinates start at zero?
The visible row and column numbers start at 1. Row 1 is the top row and column 1 is the leftmost column.
Can I keep the answer key separate?
Yes. Download the solution separately, or include it after the student sheet in the combined PDF. Keep the version and seed together so each solution stays paired with the correct activity.
